FC SURGE ROSTER ANNOUNCEMENT

MIAMI, FLORIDA

FC SURGE, South Florida’s highest level of women’s soccer, begins its 6th season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) with their 2018 Roster announcement.  Many new faces join several veterans on a squad that promises to be one of the best in the team’s history. 

Founding members Rochelle Wimbush (Princeton Grad), April Perry (FIU Grad), and Elanna Brady (Barry Grad) return to lead the team with veterans Christina Chang (FAU), Chrissy Gratz (East Carolina), Jo Rathbun (UT-Martin) and Shaonska Young (Nova Southeastern).  Recent High School grad and South Carolina Commit Morgan Armstrong also returns for a 2nd season along with current college players Flor Baldassini (Stetson) and Phallon Tullis-Joyce (UM). Miami leads the team as four other ‘Canes players - Kristina Fisher, Lexie Castellano, Dejah Cason and Lauren Markwith give the Surge its NCAA D1 max 5 per team limit. Other new student athletes at Florida schools are Eva Castano Candela and Kortney Hinden from St Thomas, Rikki Farquharson (USF), Nicole Richards (PBA), Jaida Scott (UCF), and Emily Lamas (Stetson). Local players from out of state college programs are represented by Haley Mallion (TCU), Yari Bradfield (American U), Shelby Kean (Ball State), Olivia Reese (George Mason). Recent FIU grad Paula Quintero joins the team for the first time as well as Campbell alum Christine Kindt and Cynthia Peretti from Warner. 

Training for the season began in April. Fifty players came out over several Try-Out sessions and the final squad of 27 was determined this weekend.  The team also has a reserve squad represented by Jessica Gutierrez (Southern), Sabrina Armadour (Montevallo), Nicole DiPasquale, and Catherine Kolski .

The Surge are coached by 3rd year Head Coach Ramiro Vengoechea and 2nd year Assistant Coach Eddie Hernandez with Marge Perry as General Manager.

The short summer seasons begins on Saturday June 2nd 6pm as the Surge host Florida Krush from Winter Park in its home opener.  Traveling the next three games pits the Surge against Florida Sol on June 9th in Jacksonville, Team Boca Blast on June 20th in Boca, and new team Puerto Rico Pride in Orlando June 23rd.  Back home for its last 3 games on June 30th 6pm versus Florida Tropics and July 1st 11am hosting Tampa Bay United.  Final regular season match will be July 7th 6pm against Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions.  Home matches this season will be played at Ives Estates Park (20901 NE 16 Ave Miami).

The Surge compete in the Sunshine Conference, part of the South Region of the nationwide WPSL (the largest women’s amateur league in the world). Hoping to top last season’s 2nd place Conference finish but loss at Regionals in Charleston, the Surge looks towards winning the 8 team conference and moving on  to this year the Regionals in Tennessee July 14-15 with all eyes on the WPSL Championship Final Four July 21-22 in Oklahoma.
