The Winning Continues

The Surge rack up another 3-0 win (our favorite scoreline) on Sunday over the visiting Florida Sol from Fleming Island.  With a record now of 3-0-1 the Surge are solidly in 1st place in the Sunshine Conference of the WPSL.  The only team in our conference and only 1 of 4 teams in the league (119 teams) with NO goals against!

Three more Surge players got on the board with their first goals and assists for the season.  The scoring started early in the 1st minute with a strike from midfielder Christine Kindt assisted by forward Eva Castano Candela and again in the 7th minute when Candela got her own assisted by midfielder Natasha Perez.  The 2nd half began just as quickly with forward Chrissy Gratz getting in on the action in the 47th minute off an assist from WPSL Player of the Week honoree Krissy Fisher.  The Surge controlled the tempo of the game and GK Christina Velasquez maintained her clean sheet record.  Lighting detectors went off in the 67th minute following by a large thunderstorm session.  Ref’s waited almost an hour and several resets to the system but finally had to call the game final, an official 3-0 win for the Surge.

Full roster for the Surge were GK Velazquez, starting defenders Elanna Brady, Shelby Denkert, Amanda Martin, April Perry and substitutes Hunter Koziara and Stephany Diaz, starting midfielders Kindt, Perez, Jessica Clark with subs Nicole DiPasquale, Cynthia Peretti, Chama Silva, and starting forwards Candela, Fisher, Gratz with subs Bri Austin, Chelsea Benavides, and Courtney Hueston. Other team members not available for match day are Christina Chang, Dominique Brown, Flor Baldassini, Hunter Matson, Jah-Nya Press, Jeanel Leon, Kayla Fisher, Nina Fernandez, and Shanoska Young.

Players watched the WWC Jamaica/Brazil game in the locker room pre warm-up and the Scotland/England game during the rain delay.  The Surge had played Jamaica in an International Friendly on May 23rd prior to them leaving for France.  Former FC Surge player Claire Emslie (2015) scored Scotland’s first ever WWC goal in their 1-2 loss to England.

The Surge play next Saturday, June 15th at Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions in Cape Coral.  Their final two home games will be on Sunday 6/23 1pm vs Orlando Kicks, and Sunday 6/30 2pm vs Puerto Rico Pride.

All home matches are at Scheck Hillel Community School, admission is FREE.  Games are also Live Streamed on MyCujoo courtesy of MagicCity Soccer and SoccerDroid.
